Lark in the Park

Eastbourne - 26 June 2005

Have you ever had a McBreakfast at 8.30a.m. on a Sunday in Elf-Land ? It's hangover central. Which was quite apt, considering the session we'd had the night before....

We'd got comprehensive instructions on how to find the place - basically aim for Eastbourne and follow the A2101. Have you ever driven round Eastbourne. Every road in creation is signposted EXCEPT the A2101. Still, if all else fails, look up in the sky for Teddy & Meanie - usually a giveaway sign of where to head for. This year we had a smaller field for the "Lark in the Park", but there seemed to be more going on, including an art demonstration in the same style as our webmaster - which gave him someone to talk to - bless him !!
Mummy elves organised dinner time for the littluns (and bigguns too!) and once we'd chased off the football game and the poo-ing dogs it was time to fly some kites.

One of our number had grazed his knee a few weeks ago and was determined to do some proper damage to himself this time. We put on the harnesses, roped up, and prepared to watch one of our number fly like a bird.

And "fly like a bird" he did - an ostrich ! The harness was a little on the tight side, and here's the first flyer, clutching his nest eggs.

 See here for more !!

Here's an old hand at the flying game going up gracefully. We use the term "gracefully" in the loosest sense of the word - any flight which doesn't end with the ground crew in disarray and the flyer on the floor clutching his knackers is considered "graceful" these days.
However the major advantage of Eastbourne is that once you've done kiting to death (figuratively & literally) there is a wonderful ice cream parlour where over twenty of us went for a good scoff.

Same time next year ?
