Lunen Drachenfest

31 September - 3 October 2005

YAWN !!! With a six o'clock flight we had a four o clock start. Still, the motorways were empty and together with more of the UK contingent, we were first in the queue to get on the plane.

Realising that one of our number (who was being left behind) was keen on aeroplanes, we thought we'd take some photos to show him what he'd missed.

We were picked up at the airport by the festival organisers who were wonderful to us. Meals & accommodation were provided, and there were two minibuses to take us wherever we wanted to go.

The first port of call was obvious......

NO !!!!

NOT THERE !!!!

LADEZONE !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
The Ice cream parlour in Lunen has to be experienced to be believed....

We "experienced" it on four separate visits over the weekend !

This whopper was supposed to feed six people. Four of us spent an hour at it, but we couldn't finish it all.

All this ice cream was thirsty work, so back to the festival for a quick drink......

Feigling is wonderful stuff. Fig vodka which you bang on the table until it goes cloudy, then you tilt your head back with the bottle lid on your nose, down the lot in one & try to flick the bottle lid off your nose.

The idea was that, being somewhat "egg bound", the figs would shift the bowels. All that happened was we got sore noses. Hic !

Still, a pleasant time was had by all, alternately pouring vodka down the neck and leering at German jailbait cleavage. To quote our webmaster "Ich bein gerpistup"

Now.... what were we doing in Germany ? Something to do with kites, wasn't it ?

There were several kite workshops at the festival , and we were lucky to be able to join in with one which was led by one of the world's leading kite makers who had come all the way from Tasmania to the festival.

We sew the bits together

I unpick the mistakes
One is the example to copy. One is ours. Bet you can't tell which is which

and then we sew it PROPERLY !

At the very end, about an hour after everyone else had gone down the pub, Robert congratulated us on our effort - he'd never seen a kite built by committee before and said that it was well worth watching us, if only for the amusement value.

But weren't we supposed to be FLYING kites ?

Unfortunately the weather was against us. The rain of the Friday did eventually give way to clearer weather, but the wind never really picked up at all.

To add insult to injury, the sun only came out when it was time to go home !!

These edos were popular !!!!

All things considered it was a great weekend away. there were in total over twenty of us from the UK, and we shared our accommodation with people from Switzerland and Poland. Elsewhere there were people from the Netherlands, France, Spain,..... in all I heard that there were over a thousand people who were resident at the festival, and there were thousands more who visited during the day.

Same time next year ... ?
