Teston Bridge Kite Festival 12 - 13 August 2006
We've been arriving earlier at Teston lately in order to get a spot right at he far end of the field, partly because there seems to be so many in our load, and partly so's we don't upset the normal people with the noise.

This time we needn't have rushed to get a spot - as the forecasted (and actual) weather was so bad there was a very disappointing turn out of campers. Mind you, the Team ELF contingent numbered over thirty with close on a dozen others coming out to visit for a day.

The weather was so bad that for much of the weekend the flying field had to be abandoned in favour of sitting inside our portable club HQ "Brown & Smelly" which really deserves a better name. Jenga is always fun. Finding the bits after the tower collapses is even more so.
It didn't rain ALL the time - we were able to fly some kites. Here's a brithday present.
We were also very pleased and grateful to be given this wonderful kite by a very kind chap. Although the wind was a little on the strong side for this kite we flew it (using a spar borrowed from a Super-10) and it flew very well. But enogh mucking around - time for something special.....

Cap'n Skunk had arranged all sorts of pirate activities for the small kids (and the big kids too) including treasure hunt, fancy dress, pinata, all sorts of fun.

Hopefully the pirate games will become a permanent fixture at Teston kite festival.

Following the nautical theme some of our number sat up until 4.30am drinking rum. In true pirate fashion some of our number were bright and full of life the next day, others not so... oh how we laughed.
After a quick round of "Frisby Golf" (the same as normal golf, but with frisbies, washing up bowls and no bats) the day was spent tlearning how to fly Indian fighting kites, which was trickier than it looked, but great fun.
As always the food was excellent and thanks go not only to the catering staff for cooking it, but also to the logistic staff who drive off to the supermarket to get it. Our WebMaster had never been on a supermarket trip before - it was quite an eye-opener!

Once again, a great time was had by all, and many thanks to Ron Dell for organising such a wonderful weekend.
