Xmas Dinner

Saturday 3 December 2005

Well, the instructions said 6.30pm for 7, so how soon did we really need to start?

The sprouts went on to boil at 10am, and it was amazing how many little things there were to do. Bernie is debating whether the side plate goes to the left of the fork, whether the dessert spoon goes to the right of the knife, or whether it wouldn't be easier to just go to McDonald's.

Meanwhile Chip deals (in his own inimitable way) with a cabbage.

Having spent the best part of the week in foreign places, the poor chap got off the Eurostar to be met with the Webmaster brandishing a frozen turkey and a glib "Here you go Chip - cook this f....ellow"

The WebMaster apologizes for the lack of dynamic action in this photo. Despite avid encouragement, the main protagonist was unwilling to be photographed in compromising positions with a cabbage. Shame really, it might have been a laugh. Oh well......

On the other hand, the main ingredients of one of four choices of starter were only too willing to show off for the camera.

Strange how such a photo is considered quite amusing, but if "El Presidente" had shoved the melon down his pants for a laugh.....

After some eight hours slaving over a beer bottle watching others do all the work, dinner was ready. Thirty people made very short work of melon, pate, tomato soup, prawn cocktail, jacket potato, roast turkey (with choice of eight vegetables), trifle, Xmas pudding, chocolate cheesecake, apple strudel, tiramisu and a gallon of cream.

But there was much more than just eating to excess. Having organised home made Xmas crackers for all, and half the starters and puddings "El Presidente" and his able assistant had put on a quiz to keep the troops occupied whilst waiting for dinner, and had reams of fun and games for after dinner. As the answers to the quiz are revealed it transpires there are those who cannot tell the difference between an ELF logo and a lucozade bottle (!)

Pass the parcel and musical chairs were fun for kids of all ages, and kept us out of mischief until well past midnight. Some didn't have far to go home, some had to travel for a couple of hours.

Some decided it would be easier to make a night of it....

Same time next year ?
